About the role#
Cohere is seeking Research Interns for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms. You will work alongside our researchers to design and implement novel ideas, contributing to the development of large language models. This is a full-time position lasting 4 to 6 months. We have openings across several areas including base model training, retrieval augmented generation, data and evaluation, safety, and finetuning.
What you'll do#
- Build and train large language models.
- Conduct research to expand knowledge in language modeling, evaluation, multimodal models, and optimization.
- Publish your findings through papers, datasets, and code.
- Contribute to research initiatives that transition into Cohere product development.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a PhD in Machine Learning, NLP, or a related discipline.
- Experience with large-scale distributed training strategies, data annotation, and evaluation pipelines.
- Knowledge of ML frameworks such as JAX, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
- Practical experience in building systems based on machine learning and deep learning techniques.
- Ability to communicate complex research findings clearly.
Location & details#
- This role is remote.
- We have office locations in Toronto, San Francisco, and Montreal, though the role is remote-flexible.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
