About the role#
As a Research Student II in the Fawzi Lab, you will participate in a structured learning experience focused on laboratory research. You will work directly with research personnel to support Dr. Fawzi’s NIH R01-funded projects regarding age-related macular degeneration and ischemic retinal diseases. This position provides hands-on training in laboratory techniques, clinical procedures, and data analysis to help prepare you for a career in biomedical or clinical research.
What you'll do#
- Collect, process, and prepare tissue for cryosectioning.
- Assist with immunohistological tissue labeling.
- Perform molecular and biochemical techniques such as PCR, qPCR, immunostaining, and Western blotting.
- Record and analyze data from research experiments and data sets.
- Learn and apply laboratory techniques to support ongoing research projects.
What you'll need#
- An undergraduate degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Previous research laboratory experience in a science or healthcare-related setting.
- Current enrollment or acceptance as a medical student, MA/MS student, or other graduate student (excluding PhD programs).
- Please note that this position is not open to individuals who have already completed all requirements for a master’s or other advanced degree.
