About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience working on heavy equipment and vehicles within the Municipal Services and Operations Department. You will spend the summer working alongside experienced technicians to learn how to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair city equipment. This is a paid position with up to 900 hours available during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist technicians with diagnostics for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Learn to read schematics, service manuals, and inspection reports.
- Observe the process for ordering parts and completing service documentation.
- Practice safe work habits and follow all safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including shop tools.
- Attend team meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.
- Complete assigned tasks accurately and maintain reliable on-site attendance.
What you'll need#
- An interest in mechanics and career opportunities in the field.
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma, equivalent, or current enrollment as a student.
- A valid driver license is preferred.
- Ability to pass a background check, a post-offer physical, and a drug screen.
- A short cover letter explaining your interest in the position.
