About the role#
The City of Fishers is hiring a Communications & Community Engagement Intern to support the Public Relations department. This is a part-time position for the Winter and Summer 2027 terms. You will work approximately 20 to 25 hours per week, with an expectation to be on-site about 3 days a week. Please note that this role requires attending some events outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Create social media content, including reels and stories, and draft posts for city accounts.
- Research, interview, and write blog posts.
- Assist with website content buildout and draft marketing materials.
- Support media relations by drafting press releases and media advisories.
- Collaborate with local businesses and nonprofits to execute community engagement initiatives and events.
- Proactively seek or create digital marketing assets like graphics, photography, and video.
- Contribute ideas to reach new audiences and perform special projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Must be age 18 or older and currently enrolled in college pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience using social media platforms in a professional setting, plus skills in graphic design, photography, and video.
- Basic knowledge of email marketing and SEO best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to organize projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to accept and apply feedback quickly.
- A valid driver's license with at least 3 years of driving experience and the ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle.
- Access to a personal vehicle for travel during work hours.
- You must provide your own laptop or computer for work.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, or SharePoint is helpful but not required.
