About the role#
We offer engineering internships focused on either Product Engineering or AI/ML Engineering. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to design and build features for our global chess platform. You will contribute to architecture, workflow, and design decisions while helping to maintain our team knowledge-base.
What you'll do#
Product Engineering interns focus on scaling our systems and building new features for our website. You will:
- Build features and optimize existing systems.
- Contribute to technical architecture and design decisions.
- Add to our team knowledge-base.
AI/ML Engineering interns focus on data and model development. You will:
- Optimize data preprocessing and feature engineering pipelines.
- Develop, train, and deploy machine learning models.
- Integrate models into our products.
- Build applications powered by LLMs.
What you'll need#
We look for degree-seeking students currently enrolled at a college, university, or equivalent bootcamp. You must be a chess player who communicates well and takes ownership of your work.
For Product Engineering, we look for experience or coursework in:
- Client-side languages like HTML, CSS, Typescript, Swift, or Kotlin.
- Backend languages, specifically Golang, Java, or PHP.
- Web application frameworks.
- Relational databases, preferably MySQL.
For AI/ML Engineering, we look for a strong math foundation and understanding of traditional ML algorithms, plus experience in:
- Python or languages like TypeScript, Go, or Java.
- ML libraries such as scikit-learn or PyTorch.
- LLMs, RAG, context engineering, evals, or agentic patterns.
- SQL including BigQuery, MySQL, or Postgres.
Location & details#
This is a full-time, paid internship. The role is 100% remote and open to applicants who can work in the USA or Canada. The program operates on a rolling basis.
