About the role#

The Dari Cultural Liaison Interpreter serves as a vital bridge between the school district and Dari-speaking families. This role ensures accurate, timely communication to support compliance with federal and state regulations while facilitating social and cultural adjustment for students and parents within the school community.

What you'll do#

• Interpret consecutively or simultaneously during parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, disciplinary hearings, and other school or district meetings.
• Act as a cultural link between families, students, school staff, and the broader community.
• Facilitate communication and understanding while maintaining professional confidentiality.
• Provide families with information regarding available school and community resources and services.
• Collaborate with school parent liaisons and community groups to assist Dari-speaking families.
• Translate essential documents, including handbooks, legal notices, policies, and forms, using various research tools and software.

What you'll need#

• Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Dari, as determined by a district assessment.
• Advanced knowledge of Dari educational terms, phrases, and acronyms.
• Intermediate knowledge of inter-cultural communication, including socio-linguistic diversity.
• Proficiency in interpersonal relations and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Ability to attain knowledge of translation software and Microsoft Word features within six months of hire.
• Interpreter Certification or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• Experience in language interpreting is considered a plus.
