About the role#
ChargePoint is looking for a Power Systems Control Intern to work on the modeling and simulation of power electronics control systems. This role focuses on simulating edge-case scenarios before hardware validation and building or refining Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems. You will contribute to the development of reliable control systems for our power electronics products.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop control architectures for high-power bidirectional AC-DC and DC-DC converter systems.
- Evaluate and present different control system design approaches.
- Define comprehensive test scenarios with clear success and failure benchmarks.
- Develop automated HIL test procedures to improve testing efficiency.
- Collaborate with firmware, hardware, systems, and regulatory engineering teams to integrate requirements into the design and testing process.
What you'll need#
- Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics.
- 2+ years of experience developing Power Electronics products.
- 2+ years of Python programming experience for scripting and automation.
- Experience with renewable energy integration using grid-tie inverter systems.
- Strong background in designing controllers like PI, PR, and droop, as well as modeling and simulation.
- Experience in HIL testing, including testbed setup, real-time simulation, and fault injection.
- Proficiency in developing algorithms for harmonics cancellation using feedback approaches.
- Solid hands-on experience in high-power labs and debugging hardware issues.
- A strong grasp of power electronics principles for inverters, rectifiers, and DC-DC converters.
- Familiarity with Typhoon HIL, IEEE 1547-2018, IEEE 1547.1-2020, UL1741, CA Rule 21, IEC 61851, and Sun Spec Modbus is a plus.
