About the role#
Piper Products, a division of CFS Brands, is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join our team in Wausau, Wisconsin. You will use engineering methods and Lean Manufacturing principles to improve productivity, quality, safety, and operational efficiency across our production processes.
What you'll do#
- Conduct time studies, motion studies, and process observations on the shop floor.
- Analyze and support production line balancing initiatives.
- Assist with production layout optimization, equipment moves, and facility projects.
- Design and improve workstations with a focus on ergonomics and safety.
- Develop and maintain standardized work documentation, including work instructions, visual aids, and process maps.
- Collect and analyze shop-floor data and key performance indicators to support fact-based decisions.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and follow up on action plans to ensure implementation.
- Collaborate with the Production, Quality, Maintenance, Safety, and Engineering teams.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Recent graduate or early-career engineer status.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees and leaders at all levels.
- Proficiency in technical documentation in English.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, value-stream mapping, or structured problem solving is preferred.
- Experience with time studies, line balancing, or process improvement is preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar layout software.
- Relevant manufacturing or industrial production experience.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time, paid internship based in Wausau, Wisconsin.
- You will work in an active manufacturing environment and must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and protective footwear.
