About the role#
As a Swim Instructor, you will provide one-on-one or small group aquatic lessons. The goal is to build water survival skills, confidence, and independence for students with unique sensory, behavioral, or physical needs. This is a paid, entry-level internship.
What you'll do#
- Modify standard swim curriculums to match the student's abilities, pace, and specific needs.
- Monitor swimmers closely in and around the water to maintain a secure environment.
- Use patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement to reduce anxiety and establish trust.
- Document student milestones and challenges during lessons.
What you'll need#
- Strong water safety skills.
- Exceptional patience and a calm presence.
- Flexibility and strong interpersonal communication.
- Prior work, experience, or education in special education, therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, or care-giving is preferred but not required.
