About the role#
The Refugee Services Intern/Volunteer supports staff and clients through a variety of direct and indirect service activities. This role provides hands-on experience working with refugee and immigrant communities while helping individuals navigate essential services, education, healthcare, and community life. This is an unpaid position with flexible scheduling options.
What you'll do#
- Assist with front desk operations, including greeting clients and visitor coordination.
- Support the youth program through community service projects, recreational activities, field trips, and academic support.
- Help with evening or weekend programs such as health education workshops, vaccine clinics, or youth events.
- Accompany staff and clients to appointments, including healthcare visits, the DMV, or immigration offices.
- Assist with English language tutoring or citizenship preparation.
- Support public health staff during weekly vaccine or medical clinics.
- Handle administrative tasks such as filing, organizing paperwork, and proofreading applications.
- Maintain office and program spaces, including sorting and organizing community donations.
What you'll need#
- Interest in working with refugee and immigrant communities.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, organized, and compassionate approach to service.
- Completion of the Volunteer and Safe Environment Training.
- Preferred majors include Public Health, International Relations, Sociology, or Psychology.
