About the role#
As an Environmental Engineering Intern at Burns & McDonnell, you will support the Environmental Services group. This team manages infrastructure development across various sectors, including municipal, industrial, and utility projects. You will assist lead engineers with the life cycle of projects, ranging from permitting to the remediation of soil and groundwater.
What you'll do#
- Apply standard engineering techniques to design systems and update existing designs.
- Support lead engineers with project documentation, including filing, scanning, data entry, and creating presentations.
- Research and analyze solutions to project concerns, then present your findings and recommendations.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing relevant data.
- Assist with general inquiries and handle ad hoc projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field. An ABET-accredited program is preferred.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA is strongly preferred.
- You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, paired with clear verbal and written communication abilities.
- You possess basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- You are self-motivated, eager to learn, and demonstrate leadership skills.
- Previous internship or consulting experience is a plus.
- Active involvement in campus, community, or volunteer organizations is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site role based in Kansas City, Missouri.
- The position requires approximately 5% travel.
- You must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship.
- This is a paid internship with a rolling application window.
