About the role#
Brandow & Johnston is hiring a part-time Intern in Los Angeles. This is a hybrid position that offers hands-on experience in civil engineering. You will work under the supervision of project managers and senior engineers to assist with technical plans and structural design.
What you'll do#
- Read architectural and structural plans and specifications.
- Perform basic structural calculations and design individual building components.
- Create 3-D analytical models based on 2-D drawings.
- Support engineering staff across multiple projects.
- Develop basic details under direct supervision.
- Analyze projects involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
- Generate and scan prints.
- Review basic shop drawings and submittals.
- Apply general engineering knowledge to routine tasks.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 3 years of a Bachelor’s program in Civil Engineering with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- An emphasis on structural engineering is required for the structural department.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit for the structural department, or AutoCAD and Civil 3-D for the civil department.
- Ability to perform routine engineering tasks with close supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

- Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid).
- Schedule: Part-time, rolling term.
- Compensation: $22.00 to $24.00 per hour.
