About the role#
We are hiring a cohort of graduate research interns to build the foundations of proactive intelligence. This role involves owning a research problem from start to finish. You will frame research questions, develop methods, run experiments, and publish your findings. When successful, you will ship your work into production systems that serve millions of customers and sellers. You will work at the intersection of representation learning, foundation models, reinforcement learning, causal reasoning, and agentic systems.
What you'll do#
- Build representations of customers using event streams, financial activity, operational signals, and behavioral data.
- Develop systems that anticipate customer needs and initiate helpful actions.
- Build agents that reason over customer world models to take actions in real environments.
- Develop methods to improve intelligence based on real-world outcomes.
- Create evaluation frameworks to predict real-world performance, trust, and customer value.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an MS or PhD program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related field, with plans to return to the program after the co-op.
- Strong foundations in modern machine learning, including deep learning, optimization, representation learning, and foundation models.
- Experience conducting independent research and translating ideas into working systems.
- Fluency in Python and experience with PyTorch, JAX, or similar frameworks.
- Evidence of research excellence through publications, open-source contributions, or technical leadership.
- Experience with large language models, agentic systems, reinforcement learning, or reward modeling is helpful.
- Familiarity with large-scale training and production ML systems is a plus.

- This is a remote role.
- The position is a paid, full-time co-op.
- The term is 8 months, with a flexible start in September 2026.
