About the role#
As a Summer 2027 Geotechnical Engineering Intern, you will join our team to support critical infrastructure projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers to solve real-world challenges while gaining hands-on experience in geotechnical design and project execution.
What you'll do#
- Provide geotechnical design support for above and underground structures, grading, drainage, and pavements.
- Assist with the analysis and design of foundations, embankments, slopes, ground improvement, and dewatering systems.
- Prepare basic engineering calculations using standard methods and principles.
- Perform research and develop recommendations for foundations, retention structures, and access roads.
- Participate in project coordination meetings to resolve design challenges and meet client requirements.
- Support the development of project schedules, cost estimates, and engineering deliverables.
- Build your skills in engineering software, design tools, and digital delivery methods.
- Learn to apply departmental design guides, standards, and engineering codes to your work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited university studying Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Structural, Environmental, Transportation, or Geotechnical engineering.
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles, construction practices, and industry technology trends.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including a background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
- While no prior experience is required, coursework in soil mechanics and foundation engineering is preferred.
- A 3.0 GPA is preferred.
- Candidates pursuing a Masters in a geotechnical degree or those with a background in Structural engineering or engineering geology are encouraged to apply.

- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Overland Park, Kansas.
