About the role#
Baxter & Woodman is hiring a Construction Engineering Intern for our Rockford, Illinois office. This position begins in May 2027 and provides on-the-job experience within our transportation, water, and wastewater departments. You will participate in field observations and work directly with our clients on projects involving roadway reconstruction, structural improvements, and water infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Perform construction services including quantity computation, layout, survey, and inspection.
- Conduct field work and participate in the design of water and wastewater system rehabilitation.
- Assist engineers with the evaluation and design of transportation, storm sewer, potable water, sanitary sewer, and treatment plant improvements.
What you'll need#
- Ongoing pursuit of a 4-year degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in construction engineering.
- Availability to start in May 2027.
- Ability to work outdoors for 40+ hours per week.
- Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
- Ability to identify and solve problems promptly.
- Capacity to work in a team environment.
- Reliable personal transportation to travel throughout the service area.
