Student Safety Assistant

About the role#

Student Safety Assistants work directly with students and staff to foster and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment. This is a full-time, on-site, paid position based in Towson, Maryland.

What you'll do#

• Assist administration in maintaining a secure school environment.
• Provide tiered interventions, including social-emotional learning, de-escalation, and conflict resolution.
• Serve as a liaison between school counselors and outside agencies.
• Screen visitor access to school facilities.
• Implement crisis intervention procedures as needed and follow school guidelines during physical altercations.
• Collaborate with staff to develop school-wide behavior management plans and discipline referral procedures.

What you'll need#

• High School diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, Human Resources, Communications, Nursing, Criminal Justice, or Business Administration is preferred.
• Experience in work involving the welfare and safety of students or others, preferably in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of safety procedures, behavior management techniques, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to work harmoniously with staff and students and maintain positive relationships with families.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and technology competency.
• First aid and CPR certification is preferred.

Location & details#

• Location: Towson, MD.
• Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
• Work environment: This role involves working in a school setting with potential exposure to students with behavioral concerns. Physical requirements include frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift heavy objects.
