About the role#
Student Safety Assistants work directly with students and staff to foster and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment. This role involves performing tiered interventions, managing school safety procedures, and collaborating with administration to implement behavior management plans.
What you'll do#
- Assist administration in maintaining a secure learning environment and screening visitor access.
- Serve as a liaison between school counselors and outside agencies.
- Provide tiered interventions, including social-emotional learning, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques.
- Implement crisis intervention procedures and assist in managing physical altercations according to school guidelines.
- Collaborate with staff to establish school-wide procedures for discipline and behavior management.
- Maintain student class attendance records and perform other assigned duties.
What you'll need#
- High School diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in education, psychology, child development, sociology, or related fields is preferred.
- Experience working with the welfare and safety of students or others, preferably in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques, conflict resolution, and safety procedures.
- Ability to work harmoniously with staff and students, build positive relationships with families, and communicate effectively.
- Technology competency and the ability to perform tasks under administrator supervision.
- First aid and CPR certification is preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects and frequent walking or bending.
