About the role#
AXQ Capital is looking for a Quantitative Research Intern to join our team in New York for the Summer 2027 term. You will work directly with portfolio managers and senior researchers on projects that contribute to our trading strategies. This is a full-time, 12-week position. We are targeting students graduating in 2027 or 2028. Strong performance during the internship may lead to a full-time offer.
What you'll do#
- Develop and refine quantitative trading strategies with guidance from experienced researchers.
- Use probability, statistics, and machine learning to find patterns and predictive signals in market data.
- Use agentic AI workflows to speed up the research cycle, from hypothesis generation to backtesting.
- Clean and prepare raw datasets to support alpha discovery.
- Explore techniques for portfolio construction and optimization to manage risk across strategies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program at a top-tier university in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
- A strong background in probability and statistics, including time-series analysis and machine learning.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis and research.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn quickly.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Bonus points for publications in academic journals or strong results in national or international math, physics, or computer science Olympiads.

- Compensation: $75 to $100 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
