About the role#
ArkVets offers a DVM externship program for students to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program supports your transition from the classroom to clinical practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to develop your skills and prepare for your career after graduation. We assign each student a mentor to provide instruction and evaluation based on your specific learning goals.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily caseload of our practice. Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will perform the following tasks:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in medical case management.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Polish your technical skills.
- Produce accurate medical records and SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional attitude and adherence to our practice standards.
Location & details#
- Location: Henrietta, New York.
- Modality: On-site.
- Duration: Flexible, typically two to eight weeks.
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
