About the role#
Areté is seeking a Scientific Computing Intern to join our team of signal and image processing scientists and software engineers. You will support the development of algorithms and software used to solve complex security challenges. This position is based in Northridge, California, and requires on-site work.
What you'll do#
- Analyze data to support project goals.
- Evaluate the performance of existing algorithms.
- Develop and prototype new algorithms or improve current ones.
- Collaborate with software engineers to integrate these algorithms into high-performance software.
- Work in areas such as ocean remote sensing, state estimation, detection and tracking, computer vision, machine learning, and sensor characterization.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelors or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Exposure to college-level physics, math, and signal or image processing techniques.
- Programming experience in C or C++.
- Proficiency in Python, including libraries like numpy, scipy, and pandas.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and contribute to small teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and a drive for continuous learning.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Experience with Linux, signal or image processing, computer vision, machine learning, physics-based modeling, or parallel programming (threads, MPI, CUDA) is preferred.
- An active Top Secret Clearance is preferred.

- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $30 to $32 per hour, depending on experience and education level.
- Requirements: Candidates must pass a government security investigation, a criminal background check, and a Department of Transportation drug test.
