About the role#
Archer Veterinary Clinic offers a clinical externship program for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice that also sees exotics. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience and prepare for your career after graduation. Rotations are flexible and typically last between two and eight weeks, including day, evening, and weekend shifts. Each student is assigned a mentor to help meet specific learning objectives and provide a written evaluation upon completion.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in all aspects of patient care. Your daily tasks include:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery and assisting in medical case management.
- Providing wellness care.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Polishing technical skills.
- Producing medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- A submitted certificate of coverage for your professional liability insurance.
