Student Catering Intern

About the role#

The Student Catering Intern supports the catering department at Howard University with the planning, coordination, and execution of campus events. This role provides hands-on experience in hospitality, event operations, and customer service while assisting with the daily functions of the catering team.

What you'll do#

• Assist with the coordination and execution of catering events, meetings, and special campus functions.
• Support catering setup and breakdown, including tables, linens, serviceware, food displays, and event equipment.
• Provide professional customer service to clients, guests, students, faculty, and staff.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of service areas before, during, and after events.
• Monitor food presentation and service areas to ensure quality and guest satisfaction.
• Support administrative tasks such as filing event documents, updating information, and preparing reports.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.

What you'll need#

• Must be a current Howard University undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in hospitality, business, event management, communications, marketing, or a related field.
• Strong interest in hospitality, catering, and customer service.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow specific event instructions.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with light lifting and carrying of catering materials.
