About the role#
Antigua Veterinary Practice offers a clinical externship for students currently enrolled in a DVM program. This program provides hands-on experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to practice problem-solving, technical, and communication skills under the supervision of a mentor doctor. Rotations are flexible, typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum requirements. Your schedule will include a mix of days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and conduct physical examinations.
- Create diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist with medical case management.
- Deliver wellness care and refine your client communication skills.
- Write medical records, including SOAPs, within the time constraints of a daily practice.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance, which must be submitted with your application.
- A commitment to upholding professional and ethical standards of practice.
