About the role#
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is seeking an organized intern to support our events team. You will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit event planning, fundraising, marketing, and community engagement. This role is designed for professional development and skill building while supporting our mission to help animals in need. This is an unpaid internship.
What you'll do#
- Support the planning, preparation, and execution of ARL events.
- Assist with event logistics, timelines, supplies, setup, and tear-down.
- Help recruit donations for auctions, raffles, and event needs.
- Manage event pages, ticketing software, registrations, and attendee information.
- Create content for social media, our website, and event promotion.
- Help develop marketing and social media plans.
- Assist with scheduling rentals, birthday parties, and other event-related activities.
- Communicate with local businesses, sponsors, donors, and community partners.
- Learn creative fundraising strategies.
What you'll need#
- Interest in event planning, fundraising, marketing, nonprofit work, or community engagement.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to help with a variety of projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
- Dependability, professionalism, and an openness to learning.
- Availability for some evenings and weekends based on event needs.
- Current students in Communications, Marketing, or Business Administration are encouraged to apply.
Location & details#
- This role is located in Des Moines, Iowa.
- The work is on-site at ARL locations and occasionally off-site at event venues.
- Internships are available year-round on a rolling basis.
- This position involves physical tasks such as standing, walking, and moving supplies in both indoor and outdoor settings.
