About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to align with your college curriculum. You will be assigned a mentor doctor who will provide instruction, feedback, and a final evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of your mentor, you will participate in all aspects of patient care. Your daily responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical examinations
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans
- Scrubbing in to surgery
- Assisting in the management of medical cases
- Providing wellness care
- Developing client communication skills
- Polishing technical skills
- Producing medical records (SOAPs)
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Current professional liability insurance (AVMA PLIT)
