- Own a scoped project such as test tooling, fixtures, or procedures.
- Assist with the deployment and recovery of systems in coastal and open-water environments.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues in the lab and the field.
- Report field findings to the engineering team to help inform design improvements.
- Document test procedures, configurations, and results.
- Collaborate with engineers, iterate based on feedback, and communicate progress clearly.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in mechanical, electrical, or ocean engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience from coursework, personal projects, or student engineering teams, with at least one project you can describe in detail.
- Familiarity with lab tools like multimeters and hand tools.
- Prior boat experience and comfort working on the water in changing marine conditions.
- Strong problem-solving instincts and a willingness to tackle unfamiliar technical challenges.
- Experience testing or troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, or software systems in the field.
- Experience developing test fixtures or harnesses for electrical or software systems.
- Participation in student engineering teams such as underwater robotics or SAE design-build competitions.
- Interest in maritime systems, autonomy, or defense technology.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship based in Torrance, California.
- The term for this position is Summer 2027.
