The Electric Traction Engineering Intern position provides an entry point into railway engineering, specifically focusing on the traction power network. Interns will work primarily with the Safety and Quality Assurance Team to gain experience in railroad electrical infrastructure, including transmission lines, distribution systems, and control centers. This is a paid, full-time internship opportunity.
What you'll do#
- Gain general knowledge of railroad electrical infrastructure and traction power assets.
- Provide technical, logistical, and administrative support for project tasks.
- Support the review and commissioning of new installations to ensure adherence to engineering standards.
- Assist in conducting field audits to improve system reliability and enhance safety protocols.
- Contribute to the development of audit reports and utilize modern technology platforms for data analysis.
- Receive instruction on engineering safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices.
What you'll need#
- Must be actively pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Safety at an accredited institution.
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies or sophomore status at minimum.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.
- Preferred: Experience in a transportation, engineering, manufacturing, industrial, or technical environment.
- Preferred: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and PowerBI.

- Location: Philadelphia, PA.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Term: Fall 2026 or Winter 2027.
- Travel: Up to 25% travel required.
- Compensation: $18.00 - $35.00 per hour, plus Amtrak rail pass privileges and one PTO day per academic year.
