Americans United for Separation of Church and State is seeking full-time summer legal interns to support our work in civil rights and impact litigation. This role focuses on upholding First Amendment protections and addressing constitutional issues in federal and state courts. Interns will gain substantive experience in public-interest legal practice through training and practical work.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and factual research to support ongoing litigation.
- Analyze potential new litigation matters.
- Draft demand letters aimed at resolving constitutional violations.
- Draft pleadings, briefs, and discovery documents.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school (any year).
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing the public interest.
- Commitment to the separation of religion and government.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027 (ten-week duration).
- Modality: Remote, with potential opportunities for in-person work in Washington, D.C.
- Compensation: A stipend of $7,360 for the term.
