About the role#
The Urban Farm Facilitator for Peace by Piece New Orleans manages daily operations at the Hollygrove Community Garden. This is a hands-on, paid internship focused on food production, site maintenance, and community engagement. You will spend your time outdoors, growing food and supporting local food distribution efforts. This role is a two-year, part-time commitment of 20 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Manage the full cycle of farm production, including planting, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
- Maintain farm systems by monitoring irrigation, compost piles, pest control, and soil health using regenerative practices.
- Handle physical garden maintenance such as digging, mowing, building, and painting.
- Coordinate the packing and distribution of food to community members.
- Support outreach efforts, farm tours, and volunteer days.
- Work with growers and volunteers to complete daily tasks and participate in weekly planning meetings.
- Ensure all farm operations remain safe, clean, and compliant with policies.
What you'll need#
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in organic farming. Experience in farm management is a plus.
- Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor settings, including lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Comfort working independently and managing multiple tasks under tight time constraints.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office technology.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends, plus the ability to travel as needed.
