Process Innovation - Software Engineering Intern

About the role#

This 10-week internship focuses on experimenting with modern AI tooling to streamline report authoring, a high-effort process for our scientific and operational teams. You will work within a small team to explore how LLMs, OCR, and adjacent systems can assist in transitioning from blank templates to populated first drafts. The project involves working with one specific line of business and document type to develop a working prototype and provide recommendations for future investment.

What you'll do#

• Build and test small prototypes, iterating quickly through different approaches.
• Work with real document content, including templates, historical reports, and source data.
• Integrate LLM APIs, OCR tooling, and other necessary systems.
• Participate in pair-programming and code reviews with team members.
• Conduct user interviews with report authors to understand workflow requirements.
• Present prototypes and project findings to stakeholders, including senior leadership.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a High School Senior through a rising college Junior.
• Academic background or strong interest in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering.
• A demonstrated habit of building things and curiosity for software engineering.
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present ideas to stakeholders.
