The ACLU is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student to join the Advocacy – South Dakota Wyoming Chapter in Sioux Falls. This internship provides an opportunity to support the communications department in expanding message narratives, engaging supporters, and protecting civil liberties through digital storytelling and community mobilization.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the Election Observer program through volunteer recruitment, communication, and organization.
- Plan and lead community events designed to educate and mobilize citizen engagement.
- Participate in coalition meetings to gather and share information with partners to inform programming.
- Execute storytelling and social media objectives to grow the chapter’s digital presence.
- Engage with social media followers to improve outreach and messaging.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- Demonstrated interest in video production, journalism, and audio storytelling.
- Experience with video editing and working in an editorial environment.
- Proficiency using TikTok, Instagram, Threads, and X (formerly Twitter) for professional, academic, or extracurricular purposes.
- A strong understanding of current internet and social media trends.
- Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively, resolve conflicts respectfully, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Location & details#
- Location: Hybrid, based in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota office.
- Term: Fall 2026 (12 consecutive weeks).
- Start Date: September 8 or September 21, 2026.
- Commitment: Part-time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid internship ($20/hour for undergraduates; $24/hour for graduate students).
- Requirements: This position must be tied to a formal education program via integrated coursework or academic credit. Applicants must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
