The Criminal Law Reform Project (CLRP) seeks a legal intern to support litigation and advocacy efforts focused on constitutional and civil rights. This part-time internship is designed for students seeking course credit and offers exposure to systemic reform work, including efforts to combat police violence, protect pretrial liberty, and improve public defense systems.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research and fact investigation to support ongoing litigation.
- Prepare legal writing, including drafting memos and sections of court submissions.
- Assist the team in preparation for court cases, such as depositions, hearings, oral arguments, and trials.
- Collaborate with the team on integrated advocacy initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a U.S. law school, with at least one year of study completed.
- Demonstrated commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and racial justice.
- Excellent research skills, including proficiency with legal databases and internet research.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven attention to detail and strong time-management skills.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026 (12 consecutive weeks starting September 8 or September 21).
- Modality: Remote or hybrid, based out of New York City or Washington, D.C.
- Commitment: Part-time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for course credit only; it must be tied to the student's formal education program.
