The Reproductive Freedom Project at the ACLU offers a legal internship for students to gain experience in litigation, policy advocacy, and communications campaigns. This position is unpaid and must be tied to the intern's formal education program through integrated coursework or academic credit.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research and analysis.
- Assist in drafting memoranda, motions, declarations, and legal pleadings.
- Provide general support for active litigation, including cite-checking.
- Support the development of new litigation projects.
- Conduct background research and assist with fact development or legislative tracking.
What you'll need#
- Must be a currently matriculated legal student who has completed at least one year of law school.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and complex analytical skills.
- Strong oral communication skills with the ability to explain complicated legal issues.
- Ability to balance multiple assignments and incorporate feedback.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil rights, and social justice.
- Must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026 (12 consecutive weeks).
- Location: Remote or hybrid (based in New York City).
- Time Commitment: Part-time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
- Start Dates: September 8 or September 21, 2026.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for course credit.
