    About the role#

    The Immigrants' Rights Project at the ACLU offers a legal internship for the Fall 2026 term. This role provides exposure to impact litigation and legal advocacy tools by working alongside attorneys on cases across various jurisdictions. The position requires a part-time commitment of 20 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks, starting on either September 8 or September 21. This internship is for course credit only and must be tied to a formal education program.

    What you'll do#

    • Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs.
    • Conduct legal and policy research.
    • Research prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims.
    • Research and draft materials for public education.
    • Perform legislative bill tracking and analysis.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a U.S. law school with at least one year of study completed.
    • Excellent research skills, including proficiency with legal databases and internet research.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
    • A commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and social justice.
    • Must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.

    • Location: Remote or hybrid, with the option to be based in New York City.
    • Term: Fall 2026.
    • Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for course credit.
