The Women's Rights Project at the ACLU is seeking a legal intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role supports the team in systemic legal reform efforts focused on gender equity, working on litigation, policy advocacy, and communications campaigns. This is a part-time, unpaid internship for course credit only.
What you'll do#
- Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs.
- Conduct comprehensive legal and policy research.
- Research prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims.
- Draft materials for public education initiatives.
- Track and analyze legislative bills.
What you'll need#
- Currently matriculated as a law student (having completed at least one year of law school, or enrolled in an LLM or SJD program).
- Excellent research, communication, and writing skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- A demonstrated commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and gender justice.
Location & details#
- Location: Remote or hybrid, with the option to work out of the New York City office.
- Duration: 12 consecutive weeks starting September 8th or September 21st, 2026.
- Time Commitment: 10, 15, or 20 hours per week.
- Requirements: Must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship and receive academic credit through a formal education program.
