The Immigrants' Rights Project (IRP) offers legal internships for students to gain experience in impact litigation and legal advocacy. Interns work closely with attorneys to develop and litigate cases across various jurisdictions, focusing on protecting civil rights and civil liberties. This role requires a commitment to social justice and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
What you'll do#
- Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs.
- Conduct legal and policy research, including investigating factual and legal claims for potential new litigation.
- Research and draft materials for public education.
- Perform legislative bill tracking and analysis.
- Center principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging in all program development and policy application.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited U.S. law school, having completed at least one year of study.
- Excellent research skills, including proficiency with internet and legal databases.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and effective organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to take initiative to see projects through to completion.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026 (12-week duration).
- Modality: Remote or hybrid, based in San Francisco.
- Time Commitment: Part-time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for course credit only. It must be integrated with an academic program or qualify for academic credit.
- Start Dates: September 8 or September 21, 2026.
