The Disability Rights Program at the ACLU is seeking a legal intern for the Fall 2026 term. This program works to end discrimination against people with disabilities, focusing on areas such as access to education, healthcare, housing, and voting, as well as challenging the overrepresentation of people with disabilities in the criminal legal system. This is a part-time, course-credit-only internship that requires the position to be tied to the intern’s formal education program.
What you'll do#
Interns support the program's litigation and integrated advocacy efforts through the following responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and fact investigation.
- Draft legal documents, including memos and portions of court submissions.
- Assist in the preparation for court cases, including depositions, hearings, and trials.
- Participate in internal meetings, litigation discussions, and advocacy planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a U.S. law school, with at least one year of law school completed before the internship begins.
- Excellent research skills, including proficiency with legal databases.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
- Personal, professional, or academic experience with disability and disability rights is welcomed.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026 (12 consecutive weeks).
- Schedule: Part-time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
- Modality: Remote or hybrid, based in Washington D.C. or San Francisco, CA.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid position for course credit only.
