The Affiliate Support and Nationwide Initiatives (ASNI) Program and Strategy team builds capacity and strengthens connections across the ACLU's network of 54 state affiliates. This internship offers experience in program development and project coordination within a nonprofit setting. The position is part-time, spanning 12 consecutive weeks, and must be tied to the intern’s formal education program through coursework or academic credit.
What you'll do#
- Provide project coordination and logistics planning assistance for multistate initiatives, including the Southern Collective and the Battlegrounds Initiative.
- Support the development and roll-out of guides, toolkits, playbooks, and other resources for affiliate knowledge.
- Assist in organizing virtual and hybrid workshops and convenings for ACLU affiliates.
- Support survey data collection and the analysis of results.
- Perform administrative tasks such as taking meeting notes and drafting preliminary language for internal communications, summaries, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Help maintain resource banks regarding advocacy, legislative, organizing, legal, communications, and digital program management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student or status as a recently graduated undergraduate student (undergraduate applicants must be rising seniors starting Fall 2026).
- Experience with administrative tasks in an office setting, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Some knowledge of event planning or logistics coordination is preferred.
- Academic majors of interest include Political Science, Communications, Public Health, Business Administration, Sociology, Human Resources, Environmental Engineering, or Criminal Justice.
Location & details#
- Location: Remote or hybrid based in New York City, New York. Applicants must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
- Term: Fall 2026 (Starting September 8th or September 21st).
- Compensation: Paid via stipend. $20/hr for undergraduate students; $24/hr for graduate and law students.
- Schedule: Part-time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
