This unpaid Clinical Intern position offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in behavioral health and clinical settings. Interns will manage a caseload appropriate to their education level and gain exposure to various clinical modalities, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relapse Prevention, Crisis Intervention, and Motivational Interviewing.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate or assist in psycho-educational, rehabilitation, and recovery groups.
- Conduct intakes and complete psychosocial and other clinical assessments.
- Manage a caseload tailored to your experience and education level.
- Handle all required documentation, including individual session notes, monthly summaries, and treatment plans.
- Participate in the full treatment planning process, including the transferring and closing of client files.
- Engage in individual and group therapy sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a first or second-year student in a Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Mental Health Counseling degree program.
- Ability to earn academic credit hours for this internship.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients and staff.
- Previous experience in a clinical or behavioral health setting is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Middletown, New York.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm (flexible hours available within this timeframe; no weekend shifts).
- Physical requirements: Ability to work in an open-office environment, move throughout the day, and occasionally lift over 15 pounds.
