About the role#
This externship program provides veterinary students with practical experience in a contemporary small animal practice. The program is designed to support your professional curriculum, offering hands-on learning under the guidance of a mentor doctor to help you prepare for clinical practice after graduation. Rotations are flexible, typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks based on your specific college requirements.
What you'll do#
- Experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice.
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub into surgeries and assist in the management of medical cases.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills and refine technical abilities.
- Produce appropriate medical records, including SOAPs, within the time limits of daily practice.
- Participate in patient care activities during days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- A professional demeanor and commitment to upholding ethical standards in patient care.
