About the role#
30th Street Animal Hospital offers an externship program designed to provide practical experience in a small animal practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on clinical exposure. The program is flexible and typically lasts two to three weeks, though it can range from two to eight weeks to fit your college curriculum. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction and a final written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
- Experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice.
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in medical case management.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Build client communication skills and produce medical records (SOAPs) within daily practice time limits.
- Participate in day, evening, and weekend shifts.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional approach to patient care and conduct.
