How to get a marketing internship

How marketing internships are actually won: the skills employers screen for, how to stand out without experience, what the interviews test, and live data on who is hiring right now.

The marketing internship market right now

Intern Insider is currently tracking 646 open marketing internships, 221 added this week. 95% of postings that disclose pay are paid, and 11% offer remote work. Employers hiring now include Aramark, Hubbell Incorporated, Stryker, Baylor University, University of Wyoming.

    Skills employers screen for

    • Writing that sells an idea in few words
    • One analytics tool (GA4 or similar)
    • Social platform mechanics and content formats
    • Basic design tooling (Canva or Figma)
    • A/B thinking: form a hypothesis, measure, iterate

How to stand out without experience

    1. Grow one channel yourself, even small, and bring the numbers to the interview
    2. Write a teardown of a brand campaign you admire and what you would test next
    3. Learn enough spreadsheet skill to build a simple performance report unaided

    What the interviews test

Expect a portfolio conversation plus a small live exercise, often a mock post or subject line. Interviewers want to see audience thinking: who is this for and why would they care.

When to apply: the summer 2027 cycle

Big programs open applications around August-November 2026; healthcare, media, and startups keep posting into spring 2027. Roles start May-June 2027. Applying inside the first days of a posting matters more than a perfect resume submitted late, so check the freshest roles first.
