About Intern Insider
Intern Insider is a job board that’s grown to 200,000+ students, built by four people with no money raised. We work with top Canadian universities including UBC and U of T, and we’re just getting to the interesting part.
You’ll ship more in four months here than in years at a big company, and you’ll own a lot of it. This role runs anywhere from intern to founding engineer, with real stake in the company, depending on who you are. Still in school? Don’t care, as long as the work is there.
What you’ll do
- Take features the whole way, from the database to the UI people actually use. No handoffs, no one downstream to clean it up.
- Own whole parts of the product, not tickets. We’ll hand you a problem, not a spec.
- Ship to 200,000+ students, on a team small enough that what you build actually matters.
- Keep the codebase tight. The best PRs here usually delete more than they add.
What we’re looking for
We care about what you can build, not your title, your year, or your resume. Who does well here:
- Real taste. You can tell a UI that was thought about from one that was just assembled, and you can design past whatever AI hands you. Vibe-coded UI bothers you.
- Tight code. A clear 40-line solution beats a 400-line one, and you can tell which is which reading a diff.
- Language-agnostic. Stacks are tools; the judgment is what carries over.
- You build constantly. If you’ve got side projects you’re quietly proud of, that’s the signal.
You could go make more money at a big company. But if you believe in what we’re building and in us as a team, want to own real problems at a small company and see what you can actually build, and want to be on the ship as we take over this industry, this is for you.
What you get
- Real ownership. Whole stack, UI included.
- Comp with no rigid band, plus equity. We pay for the person, not the title.
- AI tooling fully covered. Whatever helps you do your best work, not capped by a stipend.
- Benefits that flex. If something matters to you, we’ll make it work. Just ask.
- Fully remote. Work from anywhere with internet.
How we hire
Three steps, no leetcode.
- Show us something real you’ve built and shipped.
- Build with us for an hour: a paired session on an actual problem from our codebase, AI tools encouraged.
- Talk through some tradeoffs you’ve made, and what you’d do differently.
How to apply
Send a link to something you built, with a line or two about it. Not a resume, not “I’m interested.” A link, to a thing, that you made. Optionally, add a short video (Loom or unlisted YouTube) telling us who you are, what you’ve built, and why you want to build with us, whichever’s easier for you. You don’t need to be loud or polished to apply. We care about the work.
Every application gets reviewed in random order after the deadline, so there’s no advantage to applying first. Applications close in 3 days.
