Student Success Advocate

About the role#

The Student Success Advocate serves as a dedicated point of contact for students, ensuring they have the tools and support needed to reach their educational goals. This is a 12-month, full-time, on-site position based primarily on the Machias campus, with requirements to travel between the UMaine Machias and Orono campuses to foster a seamless student experience.

What you'll do#

• Act as a primary advocate for students, helping them navigate successes and setbacks.
• Bridge the gap between the Machias and Orono campuses to connect students with resources and campus life.
• Utilize EAB Navigate to identify early warning signs and deliver proactive, data-driven interventions.
• Engage with students holistically, including participation in occasional weekend events to build relationships and a sense of belonging.

What you'll need#

• A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience in academic advising or student services.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
• Strong communication skills, including written, oral, and presentation abilities.
• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
• Preferred: A master’s degree and experience in higher education or with educational technology and advising software.

• Hiring Range: $45,500 to $50,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
