About the role#
The Office of the Deputy Executive Director (DEDO) provides strategic and coordination support for UN Women's normative, inter-agency, and programmatic priorities. This internship offers direct exposure to executive office operations and multilateral process support. The intern will work under the guidance of the Deputy Executive Director and the supervision of the Special Assistant to consolidate information and track progress across key organizational workstreams.
What you'll do#
- Support the Global Youth focal point with the review and finalization of the Young Women and Girls Strategy, including compiling feedback and drafting communications plans.
- Assist in compiling situation updates and briefing notes for the Deputy Executive Director's Office.
- Support follow-up to Strategic Leadership Group meetings by tracking commitments, action points, and outstanding correspondence.
- Maintain a coordination tracker between the Deputy Executive Director's Office and UN Women's Liaison Office to the African Union, covering engagements and joint initiatives.
- Track key African Union processes, summits, and decision points relevant to UN Women's Africa strategy.
- Manage coordination trackers for internal workstreams to ensure action points and decisions are documented and shared with relevant teams.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate school program or the final academic year of a first university degree program.
- Recent graduates who have completed their degree within the last two years or those enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program are also eligible.
- Academic background in International Relations, Political Science, Public Health, Human Resources, Sociology, Psychology, or Communications.
- Strong drafting and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Ability to work with discretion on sensitive diplomatic and inter-agency correspondence.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail regarding logistics and document management.
- Fluency in English is required, and a working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

- This role is based in New York, New York, United States.
- This is an on-site, full-time internship.
- The position is paid via a stipend for interns who do not receive financial support from other sources.
