Student Pharmacy Intern- Outpatient

About the role#

UChicago Medicine is seeking pharmacy students to join the Outpatient Pharmacy team. This internship provides an opportunity to develop pharmacotherapeutic knowledge and gain clinical experience by counseling patients across various disease states. Interns will work within a large academic hospital setting, supporting the Meds2Beds program to improve patient outcomes during the discharge process.

What you'll do#

• Deliver medications and provide comprehensive counseling to patients receiving new prescriptions upon discharge.
• Address medication-related questions and concerns from patients and their families.
• Fill prescriptions within the pharmacy and retrieve hard copies from patient charts.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, case management, and social work, to coordinate medication therapy management.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited college of pharmacy.
• A valid Illinois Pharmacy Technician License.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Preferred: One year of prior experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting.

Location & details#

• Location: Hyde Park campus, Chicago, Illinois.
• Work Modality: 100% On-site.
• Schedule: Part-time, approximately 8 hours per week with rotating shifts; includes every Saturday.
• Status: Paid internship.
