The Firmware Engineering Co-Op position for Fall 2026 is based in the Creative Play Lab in Boston. This role focuses on developing new technologies and next-generation experiences, requiring a blend of technical expertise and a passion for creative innovation. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to transform concepts into tangible products.
What you'll do#
- Apply first-principles reasoning, including OS theory and computational complexity, to break down complex problems into fundamental components.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, electronics, and mechatronics teams to develop new technologies.
- Assist in root-cause investigations by capturing data, running tests, and reviewing failure modes.
- Take initiative by proactively starting tasks, seeking feedback, and asking thoughtful questions to move projects forward.
- Communicate project progress, technical blockers, and findings clearly to the engineering team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a computer engineering, computer science, or related engineering program.
- Proficiency in C and Python programming languages.
- Experience with software and firmware engineering tools, such as revision control and IDEs.
- Experience programming embedded systems using JTAG or similar devices.
- Familiarity with hardware debugging tools including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic or bus analyzers.
- Knowledge of hardware communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with global design hubs.

- Compensation: The hourly wage range is $0.00 - $41.70, determined by experience, skills, and market benchmarks.
