STV is seeking a Vehicles Engineering Co-op Student to join the Vehicles/Systems Engineering team in Philadelphia. This role provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain real-world engineering consulting experience in rail transit for passenger transport. You will work under the direction of experienced engineers to learn rail design fundamentals and contribute to project management, technical reviews, and testing tasks.
What you'll do#
- Assist with design reviews and problem-solving on rail vehicle subsystems to ensure functionality and design integrity.
- Support the inspection and field testing of rail rolling stock at client locations, both nationally and internationally.
- Prepare technical studies and assist with small AutoCAD projects.
- Perform information take-offs from engineering drawings and assist with drawing interpretation.
- Develop spreadsheets and databases using MS Excel and Access to analyze test data for engineering decisions.
- Prepare reports for project and design review meetings.
- Assist in the development, revision, and interpretation of systems specifications to ensure project compliance.
- Interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to complete assigned tasks.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field at an ABET-accredited university or NCEES equivalent.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Mathcad, Bluebeam, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work on-site at least 5 days per week.
