About the role#
The Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) Partnership is a collaboration between the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Ontario Health, and Southlake Regional Health Centre. This program provides eligible Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) the opportunity to complete a supervised practice experience to demonstrate the nursing knowledge, skills, judgment, and language proficiency required for CNO registration.
As an intern, you will model clinical excellence while adhering to CNO practice standards and hospital policies. You will work as a collaborative member of the healthcare team, providing direct patient care based on the three-factor framework involving the client, nurse, and environment.
What you'll do#
- Provide patient and family-focused care within the defined scope of practice.
- Ensure all practice is consistent with entry-to-practice competencies, guidelines, and legislation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the inter-professional healthcare team.
- Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of patient health status.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluate its effectiveness.
- Function in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, including emergency codes.
- Clearly explain your capacity as a CNO applicant to clients and colleagues.
- Utilize human and material resources effectively.
- Note that this role does not involve supervising, monitoring, or directing others, nor does it include the delegation of controlled acts.
What you'll need#
- Successful completion of a nursing education program.
- Recent experience practicing as a nurse.
- Successful completion of the CNO-approved registration examination and the Jurisprudence Examination.
- Proficiency in English or French.
- Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid authorization under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to practice nursing in Ontario.
- Demonstrated computer literacy, conflict resolution, and problem assessment skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to teamwork, customer service, and patient safety policies.
