The Florida Green Schools Intern supports the Sierra Club Florida Chapter in advancing environmental education and outreach. This role focuses on building connections with students, teachers, and local school districts to foster environmental awareness. You will work closely with chapter staff and volunteer leaders to manage databases, coordinate with external organizations, and develop scholarship initiatives. This is a part-time, paid position requiring 11-20 hours per week over a 6-month term.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain a database of members interested in student-focused environmental initiatives.
- Coordinate with public and private organizations to grow programs and increase chapter awareness.
- Identify schools with programs like AP Environmental Sciences to establish potential partnerships.
- Assist in the development of a scholarship program for teachers and graduating seniors.
- Research how Florida school districts are pursuing environmental goals and document best practices.
- Draft and edit volunteer correspondence, including newsletters, campaign updates, and outreach materials.
- Assist in planning educational campaigns and fundraising events.
- Travel as needed to meet with local groups and recruit new members.
What you'll need#
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience or a demonstrated interest in environmental justice, grassroots action, and working with students.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Word.
- Experience with Salesforce is considered a plus.
- Strong time-management skills and a commitment to professional growth.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
- Relevant academic backgrounds include Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or Sociology.
Location & details#
- Location: Tampa, Florida.
- Modality: Hybrid, including a mix of virtual work and in-person meetings or campaign activities.
- Commitment: Part-time (11-20 hours per week) for a 6-month duration.
- Schedule: Some evening and weekend hours are required.
