About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Summer 2026 Co-op position based in Surrey, British Columbia. You will work on-site as an Arborist Apprentice, supporting crew members with arboricultural practices while maintaining high standards for safety and quality. The role involves working outdoors in diverse environments, including private gardens, public spaces, and remote areas.
What you'll do#
- Assist Arborists with daily arboricultural tasks, including rigging, limb removal, tree pruning, and storm cleanup.
- Operate specialized equipment such as stump grinders, chippers, skid steers, and airspades.
- Perform daily inspections of all vehicles and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
- Choose and inspect your personal protective equipment before starting work.
- Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic to maintain a safe work site.
- Maintain and refuel power tools such as chainsaws and blowers.
- Assist with tree installation, transplanting, and invasive species control.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Co-op educational program related to Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Mandatory WHMIS 2015 and First Aid certification.
- A Class 5 Drivers Licence or the ability to obtain one shortly after hire.
- Previous work experience in Arboriculture, Horticulture, or Landscaping is preferred.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
- A strong focus on safety and the ability to work collaboratively within a crew.

- Compensation: $21.00 - $27.00 per hour, based on experience.
