About the role#
As a Substation Electrical Engineer Intern within the Grid business unit, you will support project teams in the design, modification, and upgrade of transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers to apply your academic background to practical engineering challenges. This role requires a willingness to solve problems using modern tools, including automation and agentic AI, to improve workflows and deliver efficient designs.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
- Support project reporting by tracking and evaluating project activities, progress, and associated data.
- Contribute to power designs and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and installation services.
- Use programming, scripting, or AI tools to automate calculations, summarize technical documents, and draft design documentation.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to verify results and ensure high-quality project delivery.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree program, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA is strongly preferred.
- Experience or coursework in coding, 3D modeling, or designing AI applications is valued.
